The city of Olympus is going through unsettling times. Perseus has just taken over as Zeus, his sister Eris is the newly appointed Aphrodite, Hades has come “out of hiding” and to make matters worse, after 60 years carrying the title, Ares has died. The title of Ares is not a legacy one – anyone put their name in to be the next one. All you have to do is win a Hunger Games-like, winner-takes-all kind of trial. What Helen wasn’t expecting was that her brother Zeus would throw her in as a bonus: whoever wins gets to marry her. Helen can’t believe her ears when her brother announces this, especially because she’s secretly decided to compete. With her two siblings being part of the Thirteen, she’s done with being a pawn. Now this???

Athena’s second in command, Achilles, is dead set on being the new Ares. Growing up as an orphan, he sees this as his chance to make his name in Olympus. He enters the competition with his best friend and lover, Patroclus.

Helen and Patroclus were friends as kids, and when they meet again, a little sparkle ignites between them. When they are all thrown together at the competition venue and Helen’s life is put in danger the three find themselves sharing a room… and a bed. If Achilles wins, he’ll marry Helen… will Patroclus have a place in this scenario for himself?

An amazing addition to the Dark Olympus series, this book is a page-turner. I was, for the most part of it, praying to see Helen get her “revenge”. She’s treated so badly by her siblings and her gaslighting ex-boyfriend Paris that you just have to root for her. It took me a while to warm up to Achilles, who is the quintessential cocky alpha. We do see him, however, through Patroclus’s eyes, and it helps change the perspective. Patroclus is a swoony hero who is willing to risk life and limb for his boyfriend fulfill his dreams. The way their relationship develops to turn the three of them into a unit is very organic and they show so much respect and love for Helen that you really want them to be together.

I’m also super excited that this a traditionally published book featuring a poly triad! At times when people are banning books for silly reasons this is a major win! Yes, my lovelies this is a book about a throuple. Put the pearls back in the jewelry box and enjoy the spicy fun!

Rep and possible triggers: As in all Dark Olympus books, relationships with same sex partners are common and accepted. FMC was in a toxic and emotionally abusive relationship, MMC was abandoned at a temple doorstep as a baby

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Katee Robert for the ARC.
