Fight For Me #1

Audible audiobook

Author: A. L. Jackson

Narrators: Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt

Rynna Dayne had no intention of ever setting foot again in  Gingham Lakes, Alabama. She left her town on her 18th birthday, running from bullying, heartache and betrayal. When her Grandma dies and leaves her home and Pepper’s Pies, her beloved diner, she decides is time go home. What she didn’t know was, included in her inheritance, her grandmother’s neighbors: Rex Gunner and his adorable 4 year-old daughter Frankie Leigh.

Rex has had his share of heartaches – the last major one being his wife just up and leaving him with Frankie Leigh. No other explanation other than “I can’t do this.” Now, he guards his heart at all costs. He has to protect his daughter, but he wasn’t counting on the beautiful, sweet, cherry-pie-baking neighbor who now dominates his thoughts. Both their pasts are complicated and everything they have been running from will come back to destroy them. The question is: will they let that happen?I loved Rynna right from the start – the chubby teenager of the past who was dying for friendship and acceptance who now comes back home a confident woman. It’s hard to overcome feelings of shame and betrayal and, boy, she’s been through the wringer.

Rex is swoony but he annoyed me a little with some of his choices. He redeems himself in the end but I still wanted to smack a few times. Men…

Now, Frankie Leight, she’s all shades of adorable!

I have to confess I guessed the “surprise” that was coming and I was “oh, no, Amy don’t!!!” but she did and she did it really well so I enjoyed it anyway. Loving this start of a new series for me!

Narration: It’s my dream team of Andi and Zach with a lot to work with, so yeah, my ears were in heaven. Plus Zach doing kiddie voices is my catnip!

Possible triggers: bullying, violence, emotional manipulation, body shaming, blackmail, child abandonment, fire, grief
