Fight For Me #4

Audible audiobook

Author: A. L. Jackson

Narrators: Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber

Evan Bryant and Frankie Leigh Gunner have been inseparable ever since her Uncle Kale introduced the 8 year old boy to her. She was five and her little heart was stolen immediately. They’re each others everything. When they get to their teens, their feelings naturally progress to a deeper love. Frankie Leigh always knew they would be together forever. Until they weren’t.

Three years ago, plagued by the thought that he would never “be enough” for her, Evan left town and never looked back. He didn’t know what he was inadvertently leaving behind and he left a world of hurt. Now, he’s not only back in town, but he brought a son – something he had assured Frankie Leigh they could never have.

They’ve loved each other forever, but are there things that can never be overcome? Will the love they always had be enough?

Oh boy…. this one was hard. I struggle very much when a character with a disability decides to “step away for the greater good”. It infuriated me that Evan didn’t trust Frankie Leigh to take him as he is. The fact that he brings home a kid could definitely be the reason to break whatever bond they ever had. But, they have been so much in love with each other that I had to believe in their romance.

I didn’t like that Frankie Leigh cheated on her boyfriend as soon as Evan comes back, but the way it was written made me accept it, which is VERY hard for me to do.

I absolutely loved how Frankie Leigh took little Everett in. It hurt my heart that she had gone through things that made her love and acceptance of Everett a very hard thing.

There is a little bit of a mystery regarding Everett’s mom and a twist I wasn’t expecting. Again, impressed!

I adored these two together, to the point that I managed to accept two things I hate in romance books.

A great finish to the series! I will miss Gingham Lakes! (There is a prequel novella with Lilith and Broderick’s story, though)

Narration: Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt narrating a book with a main character who can1t hear. I loved the choices they made in how to portray Evan. Amazing as always.

Possible triggers:  MMC has a deep ableist view of himself, being a carrier of a congenital disease and unable to hear; miscarriage; physical disability; a secondary character is murdered; betrayal; violence
