The Goode Brothers #1

Audible audiobook

Narrators: Vivienne LaRue and Jacob Morgan

Adam Goode has been living a righteous life. Son of Truett Goode, minister of a mega church in Austin, TX, he’s the sermon writer for his father and is hoping that he will soon inherit the pulpit. When he finds out that his father is not the pious man he wanted everyone to believe he is, his whole life falls like a house of cards.

Sage is (she thinks) part owner of a sex club and meets Adam when he offers her his place in line for breakfast on a crowded diner when he sees she’s exhausted. They end up sitting together and having a nice time chatting. The next time they’ll meet is under unfortunate circumstances that will change their lives forever.

This is my first Sara Cate and she’s definitely a wonderful writer. I was reluctant to read her books because hyped authors make me over expect from the books and it’s not fair.

The story is nothing new. Scandals involving church member are as old as the institution of organized religion, so nothing here was unexpected. I really loved Sage and how she’s unapologetic of who she is and you root for her and hope she’ll find her safe haven in Adam.

I did have a a problem with Adam. As a sheltered as a “church boy” can be, this is a 37-year-old man. It’s not about his discovery of what he really likes to do in the bedroom. I’m talking about his naïveté in relation to all the shady behavior of his father and he seemed too clueless and immature to me.

Maybe I’m jaded, but I didn’t clutch my pearls or the cross hanging from my own neck, if you catch my drift. I’m still interested in seeing what the story is with the other Goode boys.

Narration: Flawless narration by Vivienne LaRue and Jacob Morgan. Done in duet, it definitely enhances your enjoyment of the story. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook.

PT: toxic relationship with parent, attempted murder, homophobia, child abandonment

CW: degradation, exhibitionism, voyeurism, BDSM, bondage
