Lies, Hearts and Truths #3

Author: H. Hunting

eirNarrators: Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber

I’m obsessed with the Pucked series and my favorite couple is Randy and Lily, so I was absolutely thrilled to know we’d have a second generation series also featuring their kid. When BJ starting showing up in the previous books, snoozing on their friends’ sofas, I totally fell in love with him. I was not one of the people rooting for him and Lovey. I loved their true friendship and I was hoping H. Hunting would give him a kickass heroine – she did! Winter Marks is, for lack of a better term, a feisty Cinderella. She’s dirt poor and not ashamed of it (she’s cautious, though, of who she lets know of her situation), she’s a badass hockey player and she works hard for what she wants.

Life has been hard for her with her financial situation and her alcoholic father and submissive mother are not easy to be around.

So, when they meet (in a classic HH meet cute in which he almost runs her over) you know you are going to love them together.

I love how he’s the figure skater and she’s the hockey player. He’s also not your typical figure skater, with his tattoos and hair tied in a knot. The greatest part of their romance is how they talk to each other. It wouldn’t be a BJ book without his personality shining through: Tng Fck Tuesday and Fng Bng Fridays for the win!

There are a few things that happen that made me yell while listening because I didn’t agree with the way some of the characters acted in a couple of situations, but that’s how life is, right?

We have the other kids and OG Pucked characters show up and it’s a joy! Please, Helen, go on with the series! We need the stories of the other kids, especially Lovey’s!

Narration: To use a metaphor from a completely different sport: a home run as expected with the queen Andi Arndt. And can you picture anyone other than Zachary Webber as BJ?!

Thanks to HH for allowing me to listen to it early.

Possible triggers: poverty, food insecurity, life threatening sports injury leading to hospitalization, domestic abuse, toxic relationship with a parent, alcoholism
