Thank you, Catherine, for the opportunity to listen to this early. What a joy!

We are back in Cedar Ridge and we get introduced to Aspen, who’s running away with her little girl and relocating to the quaint, small town.

Five years later, she’s managing a cafe, her little girl is thriving and she’s achieved some sense of normalcy in her life. But the past comes back to disturb her little world and what she wasn’t expecting was to find a protector and a savior in the broody, surly, grumpy man who helps her save an injured deer and who ends up being  the elusive Roan Hartley.

Roan knows what it’s like to feel unsafe and to have accusing eyes looking at you. He recognizes something in Aspen and it kicks up his protective instincts, He’s not a people person, he’s monosyllabic, his family hasn’t heard him laugh in years, but being around Aspen and Cady makes him feel like he’s never felt before. When the past crashes at her door, he’ll do anything to keep his girls safe.

I’m partial to Catherine’s wounded, broody heroes and Roan is one for the books! OMG, he’s definitely swoon worthy! Aspen is the perfect heroine for him, as she can not only see him but also empathize with a lot he has gone through. Although it seems instalove-y at first, we soon recognize that these two are soul mates who just needed to find each other. And Roan with Cady will melt your heart!

There’s obviously a mystery and horrible things are happening in town while Aspen deals with enemies of all sorts coming for her, especially an unexpected one.

I loved how present the Hartleys are in this one! And the final chapter and epilogue melted me into a pile of goo! LOVED IT!

Narration: I can’t get enough of Maxine and Zachary together! Maxine is sheer perfection as the brave and caring Aspen. Zachary knocks it out of the park as the “touch her and die” hero with a heart of gold. A thousand stars for them!

Possible triggers: loss of a sibling, descriptions of animals maimed by a killer, a secondary character dies in a violent manner, harassment, bullying, kidnapping
