Redleg Security #2

ALC provided by author

Author: Jackie Walker

Narrators: CJ Bloom and Robert Hatchet

When Sammy finally thinks she’s starting to get her life together after escaping an abusive marriage in which she was even convinced to fake her own death, there’s an abduction attempt. Good thing (or not) her brother works for a top notch security firm that employs badass former CIA operatives like himself. Since they’re related, he can’t do her security himself and he asks Sawyer, his best friend, to do it.

Sawyer is still recovering from the fact that Sammy, the only woman he’s ever (secretly) loved is alive and now he’s responsible for making her stay that way. Too bad she’s making eyes at him… and a man can only resist so much….

If you look at this story, it’s your basic brother’s best friend, bodyguard romantic suspense. However, this is LOL funny, with the main characters constantly “breaking the fourth wall” and addressing us readers. Sammy is hilarious, even though she has been through some pretty heavy stuff. Sawyer is loyal to a fault and is torn between falling completely for this woman and abiding to “the bro code”. There are some yummy “nobody can know we are doing it” times, there’s action, there’s swoon. SO fun!

Narration: A story like that can only benefit from going to audio. And it needs perfect casting and boy did they hit a home run! CJ bloom is hilarious as the sometimes unhinged yet very lovable Sammy. I loved when she gets possessed by “the rage monster”. Robert Hatchet is the embodiment of the swoon worthy, full of swagger hero who has a soft and tender heart. He can go from cinnamon roll to alpha in a heartbeat and it’s oh boy… And the banter! Chef’s kiss!

Lots of fun! (I do recommend reading the previous book, though, as it took me a bit to get situated in the story and to avoid spoilers for the previous book)

Possible triggers: mentions of an abusive relationship, living in foster care. Violent acts, abduction, injuries sustained while deployed
