Daphne always loved the way her fiancé told the story of their meet cute, but their story took an expected turn when he told her (right after his bachelor party) that he’s actually in love with Petra, his childhood best friend. Now, Daphne sees herself with nowhere to go in Waning Bay, Michigan. She made “their” life her life and now she’s lost her fiancé, her home and their shared friends. On a whim, she proposes to be roommates with the other jilted party, Miles, Petra’s live in boyfriend. He’s Daphne’s opposite. She’s organized, he’s messy. She has a detailed wall calendar, he flies by the seat of his pants. They co-habitate while forging a strange bond through the shared experience. Then, a dreaded wedding invitation arrives and, while in shock (and with some wine involved), they RSVP as each other’s plus one. Now they have to keep the ruse to save face: some adventures, some IG photos, some fake dating. But unexpectedly thing get more and more “real”…
I really loved Miles and Daphne’s romance, but I have to warn you that (especially if this is your first Emily Henry), although the romance is present and there is an HEA, we get much more of Daphne’s personal growth journey than the romance. I assure you that all romance readers will be highly satisfied, though.
They have both been carrying really heavy emotional baggage and you see from the beginning how perfect they are for each other and you keep rooting for them to sort themselves out so that they can live their own story… and end up telling people the “funny story”of how they met.
Miles is one of those endearing book boyfriends that will make you fall in love with him right along with the heroine. I did!
