New York Stars #2

Author: GA Mazurke

Narrators: CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock

Former figure skater Mia doesn’t do relationships, but sparks fly when she Cole Korhonen hires her to hone his skating skills. They have an amazing night, and boom, she gets a “Dear Jane” text. Without the extra money from these lessons, she finds herself a side job that pays even more: cam girl. After all, she has a mountain of debt left to her by her uncle as her “inheritance” alongside with the dilapidated sports bar she works at. Her luck changes when a viewer offers her an exclusivity deal for an astronomical fee. Little does she know – her online sugar daddy, so to speak, is none other than Cole.

Cole is a goofball. A loving, fun, purple and lime green wearing golden retriever that everyone loves. He’s completely smitten by Mia, but he has very valid reasons to break ties with her. However, when the opportunity to keep “seeing” her secretly falls on his lap through  a very uncomfortable coincidence, he won’t miss it for the world.

I absolutely adored Cole and Mia’s romance! It takes skill to bring a character everyone was made to dislike (she wasn’t the best person in book 1, let’s leave it at that) and make you fall in love with her. And you do!  This is sort of a spicier, sports version of “You’ve Got Mail” and it’s so fun.

Narrated in duet by CJ Bloom and Aaron Shedlock, it’s a delight to listen to. CJ is always perfect choice for a feisty yet vulnerable heroine. Aaron’s voice and cadence has all that swagger that defines Cole. Plus, he can rock purple shoes in real life too, so he knows! So good!

If you are familiar with the Korhonens, you’ll love to find them here too, especially Callan, as he is pivotal for this story!

Content notes: mentions of violent death of parents (including suicide), violent death of pets. Food insecurity, financial insecurity, toxic relation ship with a parent, attempted assault, fire caused by arson
