The Wilds of Montana #5
ALC provided by Must Love Audio
Author: Kristen Proby
Narrators: Grace Grant and Sebastian York
We’re back in Montana with a Romeo & Juliet/ Hatfields x McCoys, featuring a Wild and a Lexington. Millie Wild and Holden Lexington fell in love 8 years ago, but when the horrible patriarch of the Lexingtons finds out, he threatens Holden with unspeakable things that he knows his father is capable of making come true. So, he breaks Millie’s heart (and shatters his own) and they part ways. Now, the old man is gone, but he left a will saying that Holden can only inherit the ranch if he is married. There is only one woman on the planet he could ever consider proposing to – and he does.
Millie has been living her life as the owner of the town’s coffee shop, being her snarky self. She’s learned to live with the presence in town of the man who broke her heart, but she is shocked when he comes to her with a proposal. She’s more shocked when she says yes.
But it is hard to end a decades old feud…
I loved how Kristen Proby turned this “Romeo & Juliet” into a very modern story with an HEA! We soon see that Millie and Holden had never stopped loving each other and that their common enemy now is the feud between their families. We learn the atrocities Holden’s father committed not only against the Wilds but against his own flesh and blood. It’s hard to find out what they have been through, so be prepared. Millie is feisty, loyal and fair. I loved how she managed to keep her strength and agency and at the same time understand and forgive Holden. Their story, inked in flesh (you’ll get it), is one for the books!
Narrated by Grace Grant and Sebastian York in dual style, the audiobook is amazing. Grace embodies Millie’s spirit and Sebastian will get you teary-eyed with all that Holden had to endure. A must listen!
Thanks, Kristen and @mustloveaudio for taking me back to Bitterroot Valley one more time.
Content notes: mentions of domestic abuse, physical and psychological abuse of children, mistreatment/torture of animals, murder, blackmail, extremely toxic relationship with a parent
