Sugarland Creek #4

ALC provided by Must Love Audio

Author: Brooke Montgomery

Narrators: Ava Erickson and Teddy Hamilton

Although this is the fourth book in the series, I had no problem being sucked into this age gap. “secret identity”, sister’s ex romance. I have to tell you that it packs a punch and deals with some heavy topics, so be prepared.

Waylon and Harlow know each other, as he dated her sister, but they “meet” as random phone numbers in a group chat about horses and then in a dating app. Soon, Harlow is chatting with this mystery guy and with Waylon and she doesn’t know they are one and the same. It soon becomes pretty obvious that the age gap and the fact that he is her sister’s ex don’t negate the fact that these kindred spirits are perfect for each other. Both are pretty much tangled in complicated family situations and these are dealt with a delicate hand by the author.

Harlow is not your typical demure and shy virgin heroine – she goes after “learning” with no shame or lack of confidence and I appreciated that in 2024.

I enjoyed seeing them fall for each other and my heart broke with the things they go through with his twin brother and her father.

The audiobook is narrated by Ava Erickson and Teddy Hamilton in dual style and this was perfect casting! Ava’s voice brings a sweetness to Harlow while Teddy is lovely as the conflicted cowboy who is having a hard time reconciling the idea that he can have a happy life while being there for his troubled brother. Two moving performances!

Thanks, Brooke and @mustloveaudio for the advanced copy!
