Welcome to the world of Olympic-level swimming and diving!

Lukas and Scarlett are both high-achieving in sports and academics at Stanford. When Lukas’ girlfriend (and Scarlett’s teammate and new best friend) breaks up with him because he’s “distant and likes kinky stuff”, Scarlett tries to help by explaining a few things to Penelope and revealing things about herself.  In a drunken verbal vomit moment, Penelope suggests that they should hook up as they “share the same proclivities”. They do, but in secret, as Pen doesn’t want people to know that “THE” couple on campus has broken up.

Lukas is almost “stereotypical nordic”: calm, unflappable and a little detached. Well, with everyone but Scarlett. Scarlett carries wounds from the past and some PTSD from a bad diving injury. Little by little, they get closer and closer….

I love a good sports romance, especially when it deals with a sport  that is not “trendy”. It was fun seeing how things work in high level swimming and diving.

I feel in love with Scarlett and Lukas. If you love a “boy obsessed/he falls first” dive right in! (See what I did there? LOL) Also, I was obsessed with how in love Lukas was with how smart Scarlett is.

The audiobook is narrated duet style by the ever-so-talented Therese Plummer and by new to me Ben Holtzmuller. Therese’s  incredibly expressive performance managed to show all of the nuances of Scarlett’s personality. Ben has the difficult task of performing exclusively when Lukas is speaking as well as the other male characters). He manages to covey a deceiving detachment in his tone while all the same time showing how much feeling is behind Lukas’ demeanor. Flawless! The story is told in Scarlett’s POV, with Lukas stepping in for the epilogue.

I am a fan of Ali Hazelwood and this one definitely ranks among the favorites. Very swoony, a little kinky and overall adorable.  Highly recommend!

Content notes: mentions of death of a parent, mentally abusive parent, serious sports injury, PTSD from said injury
