Thanks, Natasha, for the book and audiobook!
A tragedy eight years ago sent Lilah to Mustang Creek Ranch to recover. It was such an impactful experience that she goes back to work there. She loves the horses and she’s hopelessly infatuated with Emmett Clarkson, who’s sort of her her boss and who doesn’t hide from anyone his dislike for her. What she doesn’t know is that the ranch’s grump is completely smitten with her, but his troubled past has led him to believe that he doesn’t deserve love or a family of his own.
All that changes when an unexpected phone call lets him know that a woman he occasionally dated almost a decade prior has passed away and she left a daughter – HIS daughter. He knows what it’s like to be a ward of the state and he won’t let that happen to his flesh and blood, Lucy.
Lucy’s arrival at the ranch and her immediate attachment to Lilah will set up changes that will finally set up these two on path to being together. If only their troubled pasts didn’t come back to tear them apart…
Narrated dual style by Savannah Peachwood and Gregory Salinas, this is a wonderful addition to the Dream series. Savannah is lively, joyful and sweet as Lilah and Gregory gives us a tortured, totally smitten and baffled by fatherhood Emmett. They brilliantly convey the undeniable chemistry between the two and make you root for them to become a family with Lucy.
I loved the added element of suspense in this too!
You can enjoy it as a standalone but characters from the previous books do show up.
What you get: a broken hero, a survivor heroine, age gap, a surprise child, forced proximity,. workplace romance, small town vibes, “he falls first”, “it’s always been you”, single dad, enemies to lovers and pining.. soooo much pining! So good!
Content notes: death of a parent, recovery from severe injuries (past), stalking, violent acts on page, surprise baby
