The Mercy Series #2

KU ebook, Audible audiobook

Author: Debra Anastasia

Narrators: Rose Dioro, Bejamin Charles and Zachary Webber

The second book in the Mercy Series, this follows Havoc, whom we met as Havoc in the first book. We go back in time to his early teenage years in the foster care system, his father/son relationship with Merck (the cop), the beginning of the unbreakable brotherly bond with Mercy (Nix) and his total devotion to the homeless girl he meets in school, Talon aka T.

We also met T in the first book when she helps Mercy and Animal against a powerful criminal. In Havoc, we learn how she became the fiercely loyal badass heroine “who loves only once”.

Though a standalone, this book will definitely enjoyed more if you read Mercy, as it works as a sequel. It’s a very slow burn in the romance department (Animal only figures out that he loves T by the 70% mark) but it’s important to follow their journey to understand who they are and how they became who they are.

I really liked it, but the romance is not as swoonworthy as in Mercy. It’s also a little darker, but still not very disturbing for a “dark romance”. Animal is still the charming man we met in the previous book and T is like a “ninja goddess”. It’s great fun!

Narration: Rose Dioro (I believe she was at the beginning of her career and already kicking ass) and Benjamin Charles (new to me) who brings all the swagger to Animal. “Sweetness!” Bonus: my favorite Zachary Webber makes an appearance in two chapters in Nix’s POV.

Rep and possible triggers: interracial romance – Animal is black and T is white.  Attempted rape, homelessness, hunger, violence, mental illness, child abandonment, living in foster care, description of violent acts
