The Best Men #1

Audible audiobook

Author: Karla Sorensen

Narrators: Vanessa Edwin and Connor Crais

Burke Barrett is as tough as it gets, The former Dallas football player is being tested, though: a debilitating injury that ends his career, the loss of his best friend in a tragic accident and the discovery that said friend left him the old family home he was planning to restore with his wife in his will. With the house comes Charlotte Cunningham, a historian who’s been charged with the task of renovating the dilapidated house. They don’t see eye to eye about anything – from furniture to wall paper to whatever should be done with the place in general. Charlotte finds the surly former athlete surprisingly attractive. Burke can’t figure out why the utterly irritating restoration expert has taken up residence in his mind. One tile at a time, they’ll find a way to each other.

This is a nice, feel good, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract story that is made even better by the stellar narration by Vanessa Edwin and Connor Crais. Connor does a wonderful grumpy and Burke is one for the books. Vanessa is perfect as the bubbly Charlotte. It’s fun to watch them turn the run down house into a manor and then into a home.

It was my first Karla Sorensen and it won’t be my last.
