Audible audiobook

Author: Ana Huang

Narrators: Vanessa Vasquez and Teddy Hamilton

I was fascinated by Alessandra and Dominic since they showed up in the previous books, so I signed up months ago to read this as soon as possible!

Ana doesn’t take it slow in this one. We get roped into Ale and Dom’s troubles immediately and she gives us insight through flashbacks on how they met, fell in love and how now Ale feels like she’s been relegated to the bottom of Dom’s priority list.

It’s a marriage in trouble through and through. We know their love is deep but Dom has taken Ale for granted for too long and she’s finally decided that she needs to come first. When Dom realizes that he could effectively lose EVERYTHING he holds dear, he figures out exactly what that means… and it’s not the empire he built.  We feel for both of them as we get to know how they got to where they are. We root for them to finally reach their real HEA.

I loved these two! Dom is the self-made billionaire who came from nothing. Ale is a young woman finding out that she needs to have her own personal goals and it’s beautiful to see her grow into herself and stand up for what she needs.

My favorite part of this book was how Ana portrays Ale’s Brazilian heritage. I am HIGHLY critical of authors when they have Brazilian characters and settings and this is absolutely flawless in that respect. She got EVERYTHING right and it made me so happy to see my country and my culture represented so well. Hats off, Ana!

I loved this one! From Dom and Ale’s story to catching up with Dante, Vivian, Isabella, Kai and Sloane.

Can’t wait for King of Sloth!

Narration: well, you know I had to! LOL I loved this book and the heroine is Brazilian like me, so it was a given that I would listen to this one! I applauded Ana Huang’s representation of Brazilian culture but I also realized that it would be a hard job for any narrator!

Teddy Hamilton did an amazing job. He got the easier part as he is an American who learns a hard language, so a heavy “gringo” accent is expected, acceptable and forgivable. He does flub two proper nouns, but he nailed “comparação”, which is has a sound that is the bane of any foreign learner of our language’s existence. It’s a tongue twister for non-natives! Well done, sir!

I fell in love with Vanessa Vasquez! She’s amazing and I am raiding her catalogue soon! I loved her voice and performance. I can’t let it pass, though, how she pronounces Alessandra’s last name Ferreira. To make matters worse for me, it’s one of my family names, so yeah. A Brazilian would never pronounce those double Rs like she does. I had to dock a point there. 😉 It was personal! LOL

And one of them, (I own’t reveal who), though they get it right later, pronounces our drink, cachaça, as cachaka and I’m sorry, but it’s hilarious! A friend of mine accurately said that it sounded like a a character from Black Panther!

But all this is in jest! They did a great job in general with all those trippy Brazilian words like Florianopolis, Feijoada, Comparação.

If anyone wants s free consultation for pronunciation of Brazilian words, hit me up! LOL Happy to do it!
