Bhodi Becket is a former child star and current boyband heartthrob. It seems, to the onlooker, that he is living the dream. Fame, fortune, groupies… but things are not always as they seem. He’s been raised by his single father who is the stage dad from hell. He can put pageant moms and momagers to shame. He micromanages every single aspect of Bhodi’s a life. Bhodi’s at a breaking point. Things get even worse than he gets a visit from a very familiar face: the mother he was told was dead. He goes on a bender and his dad sends him off to a “wellness retreat” of five days in a secluded home. What no one was expecting was that the California wildfires would catch Bhodi isolated in this ginormous house.

Fleeing for his life, he barely escapes with nothing but his guitar and a Range Rover that apparently is used by the nanny. In his rush to escape, he almost runs over Breeze Cassidy, who’s there with a menagerie of weird pets she takes care of. Together, they escape the fires.

Bhodi takes the opportunity to have a few days of peace and solitude and finally reach out to the woman who gave birth to him. Bhodi and Breeze go on a journey to discover his past, while creating a bond that will tie them forever.

Although this is a “rockstar” romance, it mostly focuses on Bhodi’s  journey of self-discovery and Breeze’s learning that she can love again after a major disillusionment. It’s a little insta-lovey, but it’s been known that people can develop feelings pretty fast when they face a hardship together. I loved Bhodi and I like how Breeze doesn’t get all groupie.

If you listen to the audiobook for the amazing narration by Callie Dalton and Zachary Webber, be advised that the epilogue is not present in the audiobook. If you want to know a little more about the couple, download the e-book. It’s worthy it. It’s in the epilogue that this book ties in to the Cake series.

Possible triggers: The first few chapters are very descriptive of two people being trapped in the wild fires trying to escape. Child abandonment, toxic relationship with a parent, cheating (not the main characters, but important to the plot), drug use
