Cade Brothers Book #1

audiobook, Audible, e-book, Kindle

Author: Jules Barnard

Narrators: Zachary Webber and Susannah Jones

Levi’s firefighter career ended when he was injured in a fire and lost a little of his peripheral eyesight – nothing major in normal life, but enough to bench him for life in the Fire Department. With the death of his father, Levi is appointed in the will as the new manager of their luxury hotel/resort Club Tahoe. He’s still trying to find his footing when his trusted (actually his father’s) PA retires and in comes Emily (who was also appointed for the job by his father’s last wishes). The only problem – Emily is Lisa’s sister, Levi’s ex, who cheated on him with his own brother!

Emily has always had a little crush on Levi and now years later she sees herself working side by side with the man who she still finds irresistible. Will Levi ever see her as anyone other than Lisa’s baby sister?

I have to say that I listened to the audiobook and that kind of saved the book for me. Even though this is book 1 in a series (and it’s clearly stated that they all can be read as standalones), it felt like there was so much backstory that happened prior to this book that maybe we needed a prequel. Also, when the MCs get together there’s really not much development in their story. To be honest, not even conflict, except for Levi’s hesitancy in pursuing Emily. Even Lisa is on board with it and encourages Emily…

We keep trying to figure out what the hell happened with the father, between the brothers, with Lisa… and are left with no answers.

There is a tiny subplot about embezzlement happening at the resort and I think it was solved in one chapter!

It had a lot of promise but it didn’t deliver. It’s not bad writing, just frustrating AF. Since I have all the audiobooks I will continue with the series to see if I can put the pieces together by the end. (plus it’s no hardship to listen to Zachary Webber… lol)

Narration: Zachary Webber (yeah yeah yeah, you already know he’s my favorite) and Susannah Jones saved the day and I am glad they narrate all the other books in the series.

Possible Triggers: cheating (not main characters), sibling rivalry and animosity, mention of fire incidents
