All The King’s Men Duet #1

Audible audiobook

Author: Kennedy Ryan

Narrators: Jo Raylan and Jason Clarke

When Maxim’s father takes him to Arizona, he’s not prepared to what he was about to encounter. His father’s oil company is about to drill on Native American sacred ground and they stumble onto a protest. He’s mesmerized by the young girl basically running the show. Her powerful words touch him and he sees himself in the middle of a rally against his family’s company and gets arrested while protecting her. But she’s 17 and he backs off, knowing he’ll never see her again. Fast forward to four years later, he’s living in Amsterdam finishing his doctorate in Climate Studies and he sees her in a bar. They reconnect, have a whirlwind romance but she doesn’t know who he really is – the son of the man who destroyed her land and her heritage. It’ll take ten years for them to reconnect again, but then something truly awful happens.

What a gripping story! Kennedy Ryan is able to add politics, social commentary, activism and still have a romance for the ages.

This is part 1 of a duet and it ends in a doozy of a cliffhanger, so have book 2 ready to dive right in!

Narration: Jason Clarke does the perfect swoony Maxim. Jo Raylan is a new to me narrator and I was enthralled by her voice!

Rep and possible triggers: FMC is Yavapai-Apache. Death of a parent, life threatening accidents, kidnapping, estranged relationship with a parent
