Audiobook Review

He first saved her when she was four. Her brother’s best friend. Then they fall in love as teenagers in secret. She’s town royalty and he is an orphan who lives with his uncle, the town mechanic. He only has eyes for her, but her father and her brother want them apart.

Grayson Cole has loved Drew all her life. All through college and his time in the military, she was his north. Even though he and Danny are in the same squad, he managed to keep his relationship with her a secret. Until right before a routine mission, Danny finds out and the unimaginable happens.

Now, 2 years later, Grayson has to go back home. Home, where Drew is, but the ghosts of the past are keeping them from her. Will this love have the second chance it deserves?

This second chance, small town, rich girl/poor boy, brother’s best friend romance had me rooting for them from the moment 8-year-old Gray saved 4-year-old Drew Baby from a snake. What a sweet but sometimes sad romance.

Narrated dual style by an Audies winning pairing: Lance Greenfield and Kirsten Leigh. Kirsten’s voice is perfect for Drew . She goes from young girl/teenager to a highly educated psychotherapist who is going through so many things in her life (and most of all bad). Lance has the perfect timber for the tortured Grayson, who loves Drew more than anything but that is terrified that people might be right and he really doesn’t deserve her in his life.

A treat for fans of military romance, second chances, small town vibes and shenanigans, “it’s always been you” (for both) and a warm HEA.

I can’t wait to dive into Ruby’s story!

Content notes: situations of bigotry on page (race and social status), alcoholism, death of a parental figure, military operation resulting in injury and casualty, loss of a sibling, grief, PTSD
