Thanks, @authoranahuang for the ALC.
Sebastian Laurent and Maya Singh have known each other since the cradle. Their families are super close and they went to boarding school together in Switzerland. The two are high achievers and have been ‘rivals’ from the start, one-upping each other in every way they can.
Now, he’s the heir of a culinary empire and she’s the marketing executive for her family’s business and they are being forced to work together in a joint project: make the bougiest, most gourmet frozen food to ever grace the market.
Both have deeply hidden insecurities that they can’t hide from each other and we all know that the line between love and hate is very thin… And was there even hate to begin with?
The audiobook is narrated in duet by two of the best: Soneela Nankani and Connor Crais. Soneela’s expressive performance showcases Maya’s go-getter spirit as well as her vulnerable side. She also portrays the Indian cultural aspects of the Singh Family with perfection. She also rocks the French. Sebastian is French but has lived everywhere and is now a New Yorker. His slight French accent is charming and he absolutely makes us swoon with Seb’s swagger and the tenderness of man obsessed but resigned that the love of his life is unattainable. Kudos also for voicing Dante (Italian), Kai (British) and Dom (well, Teddy) perfectly! The audiobook is a a delight from star to finish!
What we get: a rivalry that started in kindergarten and turns into a sizzling romance, an executive who’s a chef at heart and will feed his ‘enemy’ any chance he gets, forced proximity, a grandma with a penchant for losing jewelry on purpose, meaningful birthday gifts, a band of supportive friends, some family feuding, food poisoning sabotage, road trips and a letter that should have made into the right hands…
I LOVE Ana Huang’s books and I can’t wait to be consumed by Lust next.
Representation: The Singh family is from India
Content notes (including but not limited to): on page depictions of food poisoning (including vomiting), PTSD (treated, therapy), talks of arranged marriages
