Thanks, Adriana Herrera and Must Love Audio for the ALC.
Nesto Vasquez is putting all his chips in one bet: moving his food truck from NYC to upstate NY. It makes sense, since competition is not as strong as in the city. He gave himself six months to succeed or quit. So he has to focus.
Then Jade Fuller enters the chat… He’s a very blond, very white librarian who happens to cross Nesto’s path several times the week he arrives in town. Jude is drawn to the smells of the delicious food like a cartoon character. And his eyes bulge like in a cartoon when he sees Nesto too. But Jude’s been hurt. The people who were supposed to love him tossed him away like he was nothing. So, he’s guarded.
But one burrito at a time, one food truck, one mobile library, and the meddling Dominican network might help them be together.
The audiobook is a gem! I was thrilled to see that it was narrated by two favorites: Oscar Reyes and Christian Fox, and they deliver everything I was hoping for and more. Oscar embodies the driven Nesto, a man who knows the path for people like him is usually harder and who’s utterly surprised to suddenly ‘catch feelings’. Phenomenal narration. Christian, on his part, is superb as the shy, skittish ‘I have been hurt before’ Jude and he takes us through some pretty traumatic events. They have the aid of Ramona Masters who is a delight voicing all the female characters. And all three master the Spanish perfectly. 10/10! Perfecto!
What you get: a determined Afro-Caribbean chef, a loving (and extremely forgiving) librarian, loyal friends, a Disney-like villain who is a horrible bigot, mamas with chanclas, food festivals, attempted sabotage, religious trauma, top tier groveling and a lovely HEA.
I can’t wait for the next book!
Representation: queer romance. One MMC is Afro-Latinx
Content notes (including but not limited to): on page bigotry and homophobia, religious trauma. Toxic relationship with family. Secondary character has a terminal disease.
