Cottonwood Cove #1

Author: Laura Pavlov

Narrators: Mackenzie Cartwright and Connor Crais

When your best friend’s little sister comes back to town for the summer, you help out – give her a temporary job and, why not, a place to stay in the casita you have in the back of your place. That’s the right thing to do, right? That’s what’s on Hugh Reynold’s mind when he offers all these things to Lila James. There’s one tiny problem: the “little” sister is now a stunning woman, with a great mind for business and a set of goals she wants to achieve. One of them is to lose her “V-card” and she’s decided Hugh is the man for the job. Every man has a breaking point: Hugh just found out that Lila is his.

This is my first Laura Pavlov book and I’m hooked. This is a friends-to-lovers story with an added dash of family drama –  Lila is trying get her father to rehab. Her brother is adamant she has to go back to Chicago to stay away from their dad – a whole lot of mess.

I tend to roll my eyes at the “virgin heroine” dipping her toes in the “fun times” because of the way it’s usually written. It’s 2023 and Lila is definitely a girl of her time. Things just haven’t happened yet. She’s no ingenue or naïve princess-y type and I love it. Now, Hugh is top shelf book boyfriend material. The long hair, the green eyes, the beautiful soul…

There is a strong sense of “family” in this book too. I particularly love the bond between the Reynolds siblings. The text message chain is just a hoot!

I can’t wait to see whose story comes next!

Narration: I’ve had the pleasure to listen to this duo many times while they were showcasing their comedic skills and loved now listening to them being very very swoony. Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright are two of my favorite narrators and they got a wonderful book and made it spectacular!

Possible triggers: death of parent (historical), living in foster care (historical), alcoholism and drug addiction, restrained relationship with a parent
