Brenna James and Rye Peterson have been at each other’s throats all their lives. With Brenna being with Kill John from the beginning as a teenager, she was a constant in Rye’s life. He avoids her like the plague (guy code, as she’s Killian’s cousin) and she has some grudges from the past. Her crush on him was royally dismissed and she witnessed something that really put him on a bad light with her.

One day, Rye overhears her say she is unsatisfied – yes, in THAT department. She has hookups, she likes sex, but she misses something, a connection. Well, Rye, good man that he is, volunteers as tribute. Much to her chagrin, she accepts the offer. They decide to keep their “arrangement”  a secret from their friends (after all it even has an expiration date), but feelings get muddled and they don’t know what ground they stand on anymore.

When Brenna gets offered a dream job in LA, they are forced to examine their feelings: do they want this to be something more or just go ahead as planned and end things?

I really loved Brenna and Rye’s story. For obvious reasons, it doesn’t have the quintessential meet-cute that we got in the previous books in the series, but the main focus here is how these two frenemies, who are obviously madly in love with other, will find a way to true happiness.

I strongly suggest reading the previous books to fully enjoy this one. You catch up with all the members of Kill John and you can understand everything that Rye and Brenna go through if you  know their previous history together. Also, you won’t miss all the “inside jokes” and references.

I really enjoyed this one and I hope Kristen Callihan writes Whip’s story. I so want to know why he has been acting cagey… 😉

Possible triggers: hero is suffering from debilitating pain in his hands (he’s a bass player), toxic relationship with parents, cheating (from secondary characters)
